Jack Lee Burton
1948 - 2023
Jack Lee Burton, age 74, of Plainville, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, at St. Frances Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born in 1948, the son of Ronald and Luella “Bebe” Burton.
He graduated from Plainville High School in 1966 and attended Kansas State University where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the fast attack Submarine USS Snook. He was Past Master of the Paradise Masonic Lodge #290, served on the USD 270 School Board, and was a longtime member of the Plainville Fire Department and the Plainville Rescue Squad.
He was a member of the VFW, Kansas Farm Bureau, United Methodist Church, and Senior Corps.
Jack worked for Phillips 66 and the Kansas Department of Corrections. He farmed in Rooks and Ellis County. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed serving as a host Hunt Master for friends from many states, his gregarious nature, bulletproof spirit and amazing stories entertained all those whom he encountered and insured that anyone who met him was never a stranger more than once.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Amber; father Ronald; mother Bebe; and brothers Mike and Ronnie.
He is survived by his wife Jenn; brother Pat of Crowley, Texas; sister Susan of Covington, La.; a son, Noah Burton and grandchildren Addison Grace Henshaw and Ranger Michael Burton of Justin, Texas; daughter Heidi Kelly, husband Caleb and grandchildren Makayla, Sullivan, and Prosper Jack Kelly of Round Rock, Texas; grandson Hunter Burton of Topeka, and former spouse Charlotte Burton of Topeka.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 11, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Plainville. The final resting place will be in Plainville City Cemetery.
