Harold Franklin “Bud” Beck Jr.

Harold Franklin “Bud” Beck Jr., age 74, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Lawrence Medical Health Center in Lawrence, Kansas.

Bud was born August 14, 1948, in Plainville, Kansas. He was the son of Harold F. Sr., and Reva (Rigby) Beck. He grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of 67.

Bud served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Quinley on July 25, 1975, in Great Bend, Kansas. This union was blessed with three sons, Nicholas, Christopher and Philip. They made their home in Great Bend until 1992 when they moved to Russell. Peggy preceded him in death on April 20, 2012.

Bud was a Serviceman for the Kansas Gas Service for many years. Earlier in life, he was a plumber with Pease Plumbing. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Russell American Legion Post #99 and the Russell Elk’s Lodge.

Sports was a big part of Bud’s life. When his kids were younger he would umpire baseball and softball games. He enjoyed watching sports—especially Kansas State University, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bud’s surviving family include two sons, Nicholas Beck (Tracey) and Philip Beck, both of Lawrence, Kansas; sisters, Beverly Hachmeister of Natoma, and Anita Griffin (Gail) of Alton; four grandchildren, Sullivan Beck, Quyton Younker, Jessica Beck and Emilie Crawford; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Becker of Plainville, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; son, Christopher Beck; and sister, Deanna Becker.

Celebration of Bud’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the St. John Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

A Memorial has been established with the Russell Recreation Center. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
