Bernita Jean (Duffey) Gawith

Former Stockton resident, Bernita Jean (Duffey) Gawith, age 86, Oberlin, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.

She was born September 10, 1935, on the family farm in Menlo to Ray and Eva (Moos) Duffey. Bernita was the 9th of 12 children. She loved spending time with her siblings.

Bernita married Mike Gawith on July 30, 1955, in Colby. They were blessed with three children: Gary (Jeannie), Peggy, and Scott (Misty).

Bernita’s interests were sewing for her family, quilting, and her button collection.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Eva; brothers, Chet and Harold Duffey; sisters, Eileen Murphy, Madine Benda, Winifred Smith, Juanita Kling, and Freda Weyand; and grandson, Brett Gawith.

Survivors include: her husband, Mike; sons, Gary (Jeannie) and Scott (Misty); daughter, Peggy; siblings: Cleo Duffey, Nina Brandt, Leona Steiger, and Loreda Wagner; grandchildren, Matt (Monica), Abby (Jason), Lacey (Jebb), Gunner, Madison (Caleb); and great-grandchildren, Edward and Cora Gawith, and Tenley and Blake Tally. 

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 12, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at Oberlin Cemetery.
