Brooke Werner — New hire at USD 271
Meet Miss Brooke Werner, Stockton’s new third-grade teacher
Brooke Werner is ready to give her students a creative, educational environment to grow their knowledge and values as she takes over the duties of Stockton’s new third grade teacher.
Werner graduated from Plainville High School in 2018 and received her degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University this past May. She worked at Plainville Elementary as a paraprofessional for over a year, and then completed her student teaching at the facility as well.
As for her new position in the Stockton school system, Werner stated, “I am already in love with Stockton’s Elementary School. The administration and fellow teachers are very kind and welcoming. Stockton’s small town rural charm speaks to my heart.”
Werner feels being a teacher is an important job, as it not only requires discipline and training, but love. Werner states, “A good teacher must love what they are doing and care about their students, and I truly do.” Werner’s favorite
Werner’s favorite subject when she was in grade/high school was art. Werner states, “I love art. I do face painting, caricatures, murals, and much more with my business.” And in this closeknit community of Rooks County many have probably seen some of her mural work in the City of Plainville.
When asked who her favorite teachers were and why, Werner said it is very difficult to choose a favorite. She has had some very influential teachers in high school that helped break her out of her shell. She has also had some wonderful teachers she’s been lucky enough to work beside over the past few years.
Werner recently got engaged to her fiancé, Neil Harris. Harris works as a mechanic at Bosselman’s in Plainville. The couple has two dogs, a miniature Aussie named Diesel and a Border Collie/ Blue Healer mix named Dixie. They also have six chickens…Loretta, Patsy, Dolly, Reba, Chica and Nugget.
When asked what she loves to do when she isn’t teaching, Werner said, loves to ride her own motorcycle (a Honda Rebel 250) and is saving up for a Harley. Knowing this fact about Werner it isn’t a surprise that she loves to do anything outdoors, especially RZR riding and camping.
Werner is excited for the school year to begin and states: “I am so grateful for the opportunity I have been given to come work at USD 271. I hope to become a kind, reliable and hard-working member of the team.”
