Kansas Youth Hunters in the Kansas Governors One Shot Turkey Hunt

The Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt is pleased to announce Madison Moffet of Stockton, has been chosen to be one of six Kansas youth to participate in the final Kansas Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt. The event will be held April 13, 14 & 15, 2022 in El Dorado, Kansas. Seventy hunters from 18 states have committed to participate in this invitationonly event. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is expected at the event. Founder and former Kansas Governor Mike Hayden will also attend.

Kansas youth hunters are chosen from applications submitted by Kansas youth ages 12-18. Moffet will hunt with her guide on Thursday/Friday of the event. One gobbler can be harvested. The six youth in the event this year represent Cowley, Reno, Rooks, Scott, Sedgwick, and Sumner Counties.

Turkey calling great Preston Pittman will be on hand to entertain with his world champion turkey antics. Outdoor TV personality Rob Keck will serve as MC.

Events this year include a Community Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. sponsored and prepared by Security 1st Title. A Wednesday pre-social will be at Willie’s in downtown El Dorado. A guide/ hunter Get-Acquainted social will take place at the Civic Center Wednesday evening. The “Big Tom” hog roast social will be held on Thursday and on Friday the “One Shot” banquet. The “Big Tom” will be held at the Butler County Community Building. The “One Shot” will be held at the Butler Community College Hubbard Welcome Center in the Clifford Stone Room.

The event was created by Hayden when he teamed up with former El Dorado Chamber of Commerce president Marv McCown and local businessman Ramon Criss in 1987. The hunt is managed by Executive Director Janet Post and headquartered at 200 S. Main in El Dorado, Kansas.

Madison is the daughter of Don and Laura Moffet of Stockton.
