Leonard Rahjes, age 74, Kensington, passed away on January 26, 2022, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City after a valiant, months-long battle with lymphoma.

He was born on July 12, 1947, in Smith Center, Kansas.

Leonard grew up on his family’s farm in the rural Agra-Kensington area and continued living on this homestead his whole life. Leonard attended Agra High School and graduated in 1965. His work ethic helped establish a successful farming operation which was his lifelong work.

In 1981, he was united in marriage to Genny (Robben) at St John Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born, Luke and Charyne.

He was a member of St John Lutheran Church in Kensington.  

Survivors include wife Genny; son Luke Rahjes of Kensington, Kansas; daughter Charyne (Kevin) Carranza and her two daughters Eliana and Viviana, of Topeka; brother Leland (Linda) Rahjes of Kensington, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church (North Church) in Kensington, with Rev. Kathy Whitney and Rev. Lee Bennight officiating. The service will be streamed on St. John-ELCA Kensington’s Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Leonard’s memory be made to: Morrison House, Salina Kansas or American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Kansas City, Mo., or St John Lutheran Church. Checks can be made in care of St. John Luthern Church, 708 N. Main St, Kensington, KS 66951.
