County moving ahead with radio antennae installation
At the Rooks County Commission meeting held on Tuesday, February 18th, sheriff Gary Knight, emergency management director Butch Post and road and bridge supervisor Rich Bouchey met with the commissioners to finalize cost details for the radio antennae installation for the County. The antennae will be installed on the east water tower site in Plainville. The City of Plainville will pay a quarter of the cost with Knight to visit with the Plainville commissioners about the purchase of a generator, as well as the welding and electrical hookups that were not included in the initial purchase price. The County will cover the yearly insurance cost with the road and bridge department to help pay for the installation fees for the antennae. The plan is to have the antennae installed by mid-to late-March.
Bouchey then gave his weekly report to the commissioners. The motor grader is back from Salina after having leak repairs taken care of. A dump truck was taken to I-70 in Hays for a rear axel repair. The oil distributor is still in Topeka. Bouchey is waiting on the cost for a dryer for the air system.
Material is being laid down on X Road between 26 and 27 Roads.The crew has started to cut down the trees in the area previously discussed at the commission meeting. The department’s safety meeting has been set for Thursday, February 20th. After a short discussion the commissioners voted to raise the purchase price from 35¢ to 40¢ a cubic yard for rock.
Before Bouchey left the meeting, the commissioners signed Resolution 2020-R2 with Solutions North Bank for the lease agreement for the three Westar trucks and three truck boxes for the road and bridge department.
The commissioners then listened to a presentation from Granite Telecommunications about the County’s phone lines/ service via speaker phone before they turned their attention to the week’s correspondence.
The commissioners signed the bond check for deposit in the amount of $522.41 from Township #11. They also accepted Township #11’s annual report as presented.
Next, commissioner Corky Hagan gave his weekly report, stating it had been quiet. He had driven some of the roads in his area. The motor graders have been out working on them. Hagan noted that he would be attending a Northwest Kansas Planning and Development meeting before the end of the month.
Commissioner John Ruder stated that Redbud Village in Plainville has 26 residents at this time. The road and bridge department has begun working on dirt roads. Golf dues for the Rooks County Golf Course will be sent out in the next few weeks.
The commissioners then spent the remainder of the morning reviewing and signing vouchers as presented.
Commissioner Greg Balthazor was absent from the morning session.
