Herbert Wesley McReynolds
1929 - 2021
Herbert Wesley McReynolds, age 92, Hays, passed from this life to the next on January 19, 2021, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born January 14, 1929 on a farm near Natoma, Kansas, the son of J. J. and Goldie McReynolds. He graduated from Covert Rural High School in 1946 and married Olive Mae Ross on October 15, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Webster. He was a retired farmer and sheep rancher who lived in Osborne County until June of 2019 when he and Olive moved to Hays to be near their children.
During his wheat-producing years, Herbert was Wheat King at the Kansas State Fair three times. He received a soil conservation award from the Kansas Bureau of Agriculture in 1990. Herbert enjoyed woodworking, going to auctions, and collecting license plates, barbed wire, coins, insulators, bricks, caps, and oil cans.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 70 years, of the home, three daughters, and one son: Rhonda (Reg) Westerman, Karen (Dave) Wasinger, Kala (Pat) Manley, and Jeff (Jill) McReynolds, all of Hays. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Austin, Lynae, Kaitlyn, Moriah and Ryan; seven great-grandchildren: Bayley, Myley, Daxtyn, Ryker, Kyce, Elsie and Westin; a brother, Don (Doris) of Chanute; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Verna Elliot; a brother Kenneth; and one great-grandhild, Caldyn Wasinger.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Osborne United Methodist Church with a community fellowship time following. (Masks requested.)
