Rooks County tops 2019 earthquake list in Kansas

According to the Kansas Geological Survey, Rooks County had the most earthquakes in the state, of at least 2.0 magnitude in 2019, with 87.
The most significant was a 4.8 magnitude quake that hit on June
22. The only recorded earthquake in northwest Kansas in 2020 was a magnitude 2.5 quake that occurred just after 4 p.m. Jan. 3 in Phillips County.
In review, there were 431 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.0 or greater recorded by the KGS network in 2019. Events occurred in 24 different counties, with Rooks (87), Jewell (62), and Sumner
(54) Counties having the most. The largest event all year was the 4.8 here in Rooks County.
