An Event to Remember this Sunday, April 26th
The United States is celebrating the 250th anniversary throughout the year. National, state, and local events are being planned to commemorate the special occasion. The Rooks County Historical Society and Museum will join the American Celebration.
The Historical Society’s Western Kansas Reading Room invites the Hays Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Good-Land Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to highlight their ancestors’ service in General Washington’s Continental Army. Replica uniforms and weapons will be on display. The members will describe the DAR and SAR’s community efforts as descendants of America’s Continental Army. Fort Hays State University Professor Hollie Marques and Grand Canyon University Professor Rick Gianni, coordinator of the Rooks County Historical Society’s Museum and Western Kansas Reading Room, will offer brief historical moments and stories from the Colonial and Revolutionary Eras. Throughout April, the DAR will have an information booth in the Museum’s lobby.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 26th at 2:00 p.m. with a planned vintage pie party to taste recipes of the old cookbooks preserved by the Historical Society. The event is open to the public for a free will donation to support the Rooks County Historical Society and Museum.
