The Rooks County Conservation District’s 78th Annual Meeting will take place on Monday, February 9th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Stockton High School Practice Gym.

Activities for the evening will include the presentation of two 2025 Bankers Soil Conservation Awards.

The recipients of the 2025 Bankers Soil Conservation awards are Taylor and Madeleine Lambert of Palco and Matt and Lona Saindon of Zurich.

Landowners chosen to receive the awards are selected based on the following criteria: use of the land in accordance with its needs and capabilities; completion of a conservation plan; balance of farm operations; and the quality of conservation work completed and maintained. The Windbreak Award will not have a recipient for 2025. Also taking place at the meeting will be the election of one District Supervisor for the expiring term of Oliver Beall and Randy Odle, presided over by Greggory Whisman, Chairman. Individuals interested in serving as a Board Supervisor are encouraged to contact the office to be included on the ballot or considered as a write-in candidate during the annual meeting.

Students who have been chosen as first-, second-, third-, or fourth-place winners in the poster and limerick contests sponsored by the Rooks County Conservation District will be recognized. Rooks County grade school children in kindergarten through eighth grades submitted posters and limericks.

Schools in the county submitting posters and limericks include Stockton, Plainville, Sacred Heart, Palco, and Damar Elementary School. An educational presentation is given in the schools to kick off the contest. The 2026 poster theme is “Soil, Where It All Begins.” This theme was selected by the NACD (National Association of Conservation Districts).

Supper will be served prior to the meeting by The Daily Grind, courtesy of Solutions North Bank, Stockton; First State Bank of Plainville; Farmers National Bank of Stockton; and Astra Bank of Plainville.

Door prizes will also be awarded this year, but all winners must be present to win.

So come out and support the Rooks County Conservation District and everything they do for so many throughout the year.

Everyone is invited, and there is no charge for a great night of fun.
