Marvin Duane Schindler
1941 - 2025
Marvin Duane Schindler, 84, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas.
He was born the 7th of 12 children on April 27, 1941, in Greenfield Township, Rooks County, to Ray and Vera (Arrington) Schindler.
Marvin learned the value of hard work by raising crops on the family farm, taking care of chickens and pigs, and milking cows. He attended Elm Creek Country School, then continued his education and graduated from Stockton High School in 1960. Following school, he enlisted in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. He was aboard the USS Kearsarge as a Ground Operator guiding planes onto the ship. He traveled to Japan, Korea, Hawaii, the Baltic Sea, the Bay of Pigs, and numerous other 3rd world countries.
He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas, and later in life joined the Goddard Baptist Church. After retiring from the Navy, he obtained a private pilot's license and owned his own small plane. He passed the time by reading the Bible and always carried a pocket Bible with him. Before an accident that took most of his hearing, he enjoyed watching and listening to all the birds, his favorite being Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal. He always knew when it was Fall or Summer harvest and wanted to hear how his son-in-laws' harvest crops were going.
Following the Navy, Marvin worked as a Ground Operator at Wichita Airport, guiding planes to the runway and even fueling them for Elvis Presley, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, and Hank Williams. Then he worked at Vulcan Chemicals as a welder, and later retired from Boeing.
He is preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Sandy; siblings: Abe "Junior" (Shirley) Schindler, Avis (Lester) Look, Rita (Gene) Hrabe, Kermit (Barb) Schindler, Richard, Charlie, and Henry Schindler; sister-in-law, Julie Schindler, and brother-in-law, Normand Hrabe.
