Brenda (Stagner) Markley

Brenda (Stagner) Markley, age 79, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023.

She was born July 28, 1943, to Dale and Daisy (Wise) Stagner in Hays.

Brenda was a woman of strong faith and had a close relationship with her church family. She graduated in 1961 from Plainville High School and went on to cosmetology school in Wichita.

She married Don Markley in 1962 and they later divorced. They had one daughter in 1967. Dana was her mom’s pride and joy!

In 1973, they moved to Hays where she and Don owned MarkIII Oil Company until 1987. Brenda also owned two hair salons in Hays—Salon Unique and The Ultimate Touch.

Brenda moved to Kansas City in 1990 and then back to Hays to be closer to family in 1998 where she worked at Duane’s Design until 2006. She recently moved to Wichita to be closer to her daughter.

She had a passion for flowers, her “little man” Tucker, and Karen Kingsbury books, as well as precious time spent with her “Punkin” Dana.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Daisy (Wise) Stagner; and sister, Shannon Larsen.

Survivors include her daughter, Dana, and wife, Kim Markley; siblings, Paul (Dave Ludwig) Stagner, Pam (Jay) Mongeau, Lois (Butch) Post, and Debbie (Don) Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews; and other extended families.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 10, 2023, at Westview Church, Hays.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Westview Church, 3000 W 41st St., Hays, KS 67601, and Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.
