Terry Hamit honored as newest inductee to the Kansas Auctioneers Auxiliary Hall of Fame
Since 1995, Terry Hamit has served on the Kansas Auctioneers Auxiliary in the capacity of secretary/treasurer for twelve years, followed by a term as vice president, and then as the organization’s president. Terry is a charter member of the Auxiliary since its formation in 1994, and even after what most people would consider as having more than fulfilled her duties as a board member, she again held the position of secretary until 2016.
So is it any wonder that when it came time for the organization’s members to nominate one of their own for the Hall of Fame, Terry’s name was written down? Once the secret nominations were sent in, a committee reviewed the list of candidates before the annual Kansas Auctioneers Winter Convention held at the Drury Plaza Broadview Hotel in Wichita this past January.
Terry, who helps set up and works as a cashier on auction days, and her husband, Don, who has been an auctioneer for over 36 years, calling everything from land, personal property and antique auctions, as well as the annual SHS jersey auction and fundraisers throughout the years, arrived at the convention on a Thursday evening and enjoyed the social gathering of the auctioneers and the auxiliary members.
On Friday evening, auctioneers could enter the Rookie Contest by auctioning off a few items and being judged on their skills. Terry said they were pretty excited that Cody Miller was one of the participants. He was later named as one of the ten auctioneers who will now move on to the Bid Calling Contest at the State Fair this fall. The winner of State Fair Contest will represent Kansas at the National Auctioneers Conference.
On Saturday, the Auxiliary held their annual Luncheon, with Terry noting that the organization raises money from the auctions held during the convention to help fund scholarships. Also at the Luncheon was when the Auxiliary Hall of Fame Inductee was announced. Terry said, “When my name was called, I just cried! I was so very honored, as well as very surprised.”
Terry received a necklace, earrings and a sun catcher for this honor.
Terry said this coming year will be the first year in a long time she doesn’t have any chores to do as an Auxiliary member! She said, “It’s a joy to be a part of this organization since we are all one big family.”
