If you’ve lived in Stockton for quite a few years, or your entire life, you may remember the plays directed or sponsored by the Stockton Area Arts Council. Some of you may remember the Speaking Stones, where locals portrayed early Stockton pioneers, a popular event also directed by the Stockton Area Arts Council. Or maybe you grew up having fun with drawing with Chalk Art in downtown Stockton, a fun activity that has started up again in recent years in connection with the Peony Festival.

If just the suggestions above evoke fun memories, you will be happy to know that the Stockton Area Arts Council is starting up again. A group of very interested people has met and organized, and you are invited to join in on the beginnings of something really fun and beneficial for Stockton and the surrounding area.

Speaking of the “surrounding area,” the name of the organization opens up possibilities for the other towns, and rural hills and valleys in Rooks County to participate. We are still looking for additional persons to be on the Board to get things in motion to start the organization again. If you are interested, please call Clarene Goodheart, 785-737-3662, or Nancy Becker, 785-425-8710, or stop in to talk with NAncy in the afternoons at the Sentinel office.

If you are interested in promoting art appreciation and providing educational opportunities for all ages, please let us know of your interest or your ideas.
