July 4—Betty Cadoret was featured in an article about being a Foster Grandparent. Rooks County and the City of Stockton signed a law enforcement contract between the two entities that will take effect on January 1st, 2020. A structure fire at the house owned by Bruce Krob at 216 South Ash resulted in a complete loss. Case Artman Bonebrake and Leona Walters passed away.
July 11—Lightning struck an oil tank battery in the 1000 block of South Cypress, causing a large fire. Ten-year-old Blaire Beougher had the lead role in the musical “Annie” at the Huck Boyd Center in Phillipsburg. Isaac Reed was interning at Stitch and Chatter over the summer with owner Idona Duncan. Stockton City Manager Courtney Flower was serving as interim police chief following the retirement of Police Chief Kelly Post and Deputy Tammy Post.
July 18—The area wheat harvest was coming to an end with 525,000 bushels taken in at Stockton and 449,000 bushels taken in at Woodston. Robert “Bob” Wise and Keith E. Mongeau passed away. The Stockton Tiger Sharks brought home two championships from the Plains Tsunami Swim League Championship: Justin Knoll won the 50 Short Freestyle in a time of 29.29, and the winning the 14 and Under 200 Free Relay team was Ruthie Voss, Claire Plumer, Taigen Kerr and Delanee Bedore. John and Malee Berkley were celebrating 50 years of marriage.
July 25—The Stockton Rodders presented a check to the Stockton Fire Department in the amount of $3,548.87 raised from the proceeds of the Swing Into Summer Car Show. Granite benches were placed in front of the library in memory of Elton and Marcella Smith and were donated by the Ron Gallaway family. Stockton businesses honored at the annual Rooks County Business Appreciation Month Dinner were Muir Law Office and Coast to Coast Title Company. Father Mark A. Berland and Charles “Chuck” G. Arnold passed away.
Aug. 1—An article about Logan Winklepleck attending the Ambassador Leadership Summit in Boston was featured. Johnnie David “Dave” Nowlin and James Lee Kuhn passed away.
Aug. 8—The Rooks County Free Fair was gearing up for a great week of fun, family and food. Randy Koster’s motorcycle flag crew was featured in an article. The Stockton Motion Dance Competitive Dance Team consisting of Ella Snyder, Blaire Beougher, Mia Odle, Ruthie Voss, Claire Plumer, Brianna Pulec, Janae Keller, Payton Keller and MaKenna Horn did well at Nationals. Emmett Lee was born to parents Larry and Melanie Wilson of Rio Rancho, NM on July 27th. Oakleigh Rain Cook was born on June 11th to parents Zachary and Bethany Cook. Dee and Bonnie (Johnson) Swayne were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Aug. 15—The Sentinel had a feature article on new teacher Erica Dryden. Robin Ann Bailey passed away. Jayana Creighton and her dog Rocky received Champion Overall; Kourtney Bigge and her dog Kimber won the 4-H On-Lead Agility Champion and Jalia Creighton and her dog Maggie were the 4-H Off-Lead Agility Champion at the Dog Agility Show. Jeanie Rolfe was the RCH August Employee of the Month.
Aug. 22— Al Becker (age 101) and his motorcycle racing family were featured in an article. Addie Holmes was Stockton’s new art teacher. Eloise J. “Frenchie” Newell and Rosetta Pauline Sayers White passed away. Bob McClellan was turning 90 years old! The new hydrotherapy pool had been installed at the Rooks County Health Center Rehabilitation Center. Molly Schleicher and Carson McMullen had announced their engagement and approaching wedding. Rooks County Free Fair Grand Champion 4-H Livestock were exhibited by Olivia Dix (Market Lamb); Bodye Stithem (Meat Goat); Ryan Mongeau (Market Swine); and Bodye Stithem (Market Steer).
Aug. 29—Former Stockton resident Carlos Gallaway of Ellis passed away in a house fire. Trey Wallace nearly drowned in the wave pool at Oceans of Fun with the community sending prayers for his recovery. New teacher Heather Stamper-Voss was featured in an article. A house fire occurred at 518 North Spruce on Saturday, August 24th. Johnita F. Haines and Harvey J. Fry passed away. The Hard Charger Award given away each year at the Fair stock car races in memory of Jay “Fuzzy” Hudson, was presented to Spencer Hilbrink. Paulson and Jorge Villalta had announced their engagement and approaching marriage.
Sept. 5—The motorcycle racing Werner family was featured in an article. Kayla Hockett was introduced as Stockton’s new band teacher. Harvey Joseph Fry, Lucille Ochampaugh, Trey Samuel Wallace and Joyce Dee (Hays) Richardson had passed away.
Sept. 12—Anne Williams was the new kindergarten teacher at Stockton. USD 271 enrollment gained 15 students for the 2019-2020 year. KBI was investigating the homicide of 56-year-old Mark E. Reif of Plain-ville, who had died as a result of gunshot wounds. Main Street Christian Church’s new pastor and wife were bob and Karen Matthews. A benefit was to be held for Mike Stithem to help with medical expenses for his MSA. Rick Johnston, Patricia Meyers, Willard “Willie” Beckley, Loree M. (Maddy) Riggs and David A. Kinion passed away.
Sept. 19—Stockton Firefighter Ian Snyder was featured in an article about his participation in the 5th annual Wichita 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Noah Griffin got to throw out the honorary first pitch at the Kansas City Royals game. A suspect in the Rooks County homicide of Mark Reif, Jon Flowers of Inman, was found dead in his home. Brad A. Hrabe and Ronald Von Scarrow passed away. Jonathan Hamel and Cameron Lindsey each placed first in their grade divisions at the Stockton Cross Country meet.
Sept. 26—The Facebook post of the SHS Tiger football team practice at Solomon Valley Manor went viral. The Rooks County Historical Society was to host its 4th annual Fall Festival on September 29th. The second annual Stockton Pumpkin Patch was set for October 5th and 6th. Don Mattson passed away. Jonathan Hamel and Cameron Lindsey each recorded another cross country win at the Smith Center meet. The RCH Auxiliary received the HAK Gold Award of Excellence.
