Please note the “early” birthdate of this week’s Civil War veteran. Like Amos Earlywine, Jacob Boyer was born in the 1820s. What is remarkable about this particular time the United States Constitution was adopted in 1789 (approximately 30 years earlier) and the War of 1812, the “second war for independence,” ended in 1815. The birthdates of these Civil War veterans were closer to the founding of the nation than to the Civil War. They had children who survived beyond World War II. For a history person, this is something to contemplate.
