Heartland Community Foundation awards $52,000 in Rooks County

During its fall grant cycle, the Heartland Community Foundation awarded over $144,000 to 31 projects throughout Ellis, Rooks and Trego Counties. The following organizations in Rooks County received funding:

• USD 270, $9,000 to purchase student desks and chairs for the high school classrooms.

• Redbud Village, $7,995 to purchase new dining tables and chairs in nursing home dining room.

• Rooks County Healthcare Foundation, $7,995 to purchase one ST-CS-E67R Stress Controller and one V6.73 ECG Cardiosoft interface platform.

• USD 271, $6,505 to purchase sensory equipment and cooperative engagement items for the grade school sensory room.

• City of Palco, $5,000 for electrical work for the new emergency building.

• USD 269, $3,800 for a speaker and supplies for the Beyond the Classroom event.

• Stockton Recreation Commission, $3,500 to replace the ball field scoreboard.

• Plainville Community Foundation, $3,000 for expenses for an All-School Reunion for Plainville High School alumni.

• Damar Community Historical Foundation, $2,400 to purchase decorative trash containers and remove dead trees scattered throughout the community.

• Sacred Heart Parish, $2,000 to provide healthy meals to needy families and senior citizens.

• Sacred Heart Parish, $1,200 to purchase outdoor tables for the school grounds.

• Plainville Township 11 Board, $3,400 for startup costs for Solomon Ridge Trails Association, a 501(c)3 trails development and management organization.

This round of grants was made possible by five funds at the community foundation: the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which focuses on improving quality of life throughout each county; the Kansas Health Foundation Fund and the Heartland Healthy Living Fund which support the public health of Ellis, Rooks and Trego Counties; and the Rooks County Legacy Fund and the Trego County Legacy Fund, which both focus on improving the quality of life in Rooks and Trego County.
