Solomon Valley Highway 24 Heritage Alliance 2020 Faye Minium Spirit Award recipient is Joan Nothern. The award is given annually by Solomon Valley Highway 24 Heritage Alliance and is named for Faye Minium, who gave so much to the Alliance as well as her hometown or Moreland.

The success of the Alliance is due to the visionary leadership of the first President of the Alliance, Joan, who lived in Glasco for nearly 40 years.

Joan moved to Glasco to live along the Solomon Valley and Highway 24 after teaching in Manhattan. She has moved back to her home state of Wisconsin to be near family. She left quite a legacy in this area.

Joan not only was a tireless worker for her own community of Glasco, but even though others might not have thought it could be done, Joan worked in founding the SV24HA. Joan led the Alliance as President, made up of communities from Glasco to Hoxie for 20 years as we learned about our past present and future. It was her way of leading and encouraging others to learn about their own communities using the 8 Rural elements as defined by the Kansas Sampler Foundation—Architecture, Art, Commerce, Cuisine, Culture, Geography, History, and People. Now each community keeps all of these alive for not only our own communities, but each other and visitors to our area. Twenty-four communities working together can do more than each can by themselves.
