Granddaughter named U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalist

Taylor Weidenhaft, a senior at Hays High School and granddaughter of Stockton’s Joe and Pat Weidenhaft, is one of 621 students in the nation to be selected as a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program semifinalist.

Out of an anticipated 3.6 million seniors, Weidenhaft was one of 5,600 U.S. seniors invited to apply for the program. After several rounds of competition, she has been named a semifinalist.

When Weidenhaft was 14 years old she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and has been in remission since Febru ary 1, 2016. While undergoing

While undergoing treatment for the disease, she was able to maintain her 4.0 GPA, and has since continued to earn a 4.0 GPA as a student at Hays High.

Weidenhaft plans to attend Kansas State University this fall to major in human health biology with a minor in psychology. She hopes to one day be a pediatric plastic surgeon.

She is the daughter of Brandon and Julie Weidenhaft of Catharine.
