* Hostile action touched the lives of two Hays soldiers when a Chinook helicopter went down near Combat Outpost Sayed Abad, Afghanistan, on August 6th. All 30 Americans and eight Afghans aboard the helicopter died in the crash. Pilots Bryan Nichols and David Carter, both of Hays, died in the crash.
