* And So They Say: Cleo Baughman: “I think there ought to be something in the Record about Lucia getting picked up for speeding near Salina.” Margaret Kendall: “By the time Thanksgiving gets here, I don’t particularly enjoy turkey.” Dot Hrabe: “Some ways it isn’t so bad when you lose your voice, but it’s sure hard to holler at the kids.” Maxine Kenworthy: “I have 70 percent of my Christmas shopping done.”

* Two Rooks County 4-Hers, Ted Odle and Rodney Carsten, were members of the second-place Kansas Poultry team at the National 4-H Poultry Contest held in Chicago. They were 19 points behind the first-place team. Sixteen teams from all over the nation took part in the contest. Ted and Rodney finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Ted and Rodney won the right to be on the Kansas team at the national contest by placing in the top four individuals at the State Fair contest in Hutchinson in September. Rodney was the high individual, and Ted took second. Rodney was a member of the Star 4-H Club, and Ted was a Bow Creek 4-H Club member.

* The Stockton High School Tiger mat men had won their first match of the season with Ronnie McRae, Doug Iman, Randy Baughman, David Baughman, Ed Hageman, David Couch, Mike Morrissey, and Alan Bouchey winning in their weight classes. Coach Emery Hart was pleased with the team’s performance and the fine crowd at the match.

* Miss Effie Benson was the winner of the fine automatic sewing machine given away at Webster’s Supermarket. The transistor radio went to Mrs. Nettie Hale of Alton, and three pairs of pinking shears went to Mrs. Raymond Biery, Mrs. Russell Bouchey, and Mrs. Johnny Locke.

* Mrs. Effie Fuller and Miss Vada Hazen were Stockton exhibitors at the Plainville Art Show. Mrs. Fuller received a second- place rating on one of her seascapes.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: The toy commercials on TV these days are making it rather tough on old Santa.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The Jones Motor Company had moved into its new building three blocks south of the stop sign. A huge crowd enjoyed the Junior play in which Howard Riedel, Karol Mosshart, LeVeda Hulse, Jeanne Brown, Kay Leech, Gwendene Webster, Janice Smith, Donna Wiklund, Joyce Buss, Max Fiskin, Brian Mullen, John Griebel, and Jerry O’Reagan had the roles. Mrs. Loretta Drummond had undergone a tonsillectomy.

* On sale at Webster’s Supermarket were smoked picnic hams for 39¢ a pound, Bridge Mix peanut clusters for 59¢ a pound bag, three boxes of Pillsbury cake mix for 88¢, a ten-pound bag of red potatoes for 49¢, and a head of cabbage for 10¢ a pound.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre was “The Flim Flam Man,” starring George C. Scott and Sue Lyon.
