Young fairgoers with a green thumb are encouraged to take part in the Tallest Corn Plant Contest at this year's Rooks County Free Fair. Sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, the contest is open to children ages 2 to 18 and offers cash prizes for the tallest corn plants. First place will receive $50, second place $30, and third place $20.

Contestants should bring their tallest corn stalk, cut at ground level (without the root ball), to the fair on Monday, August 3, between 9 a.m. and noon. Plants will be measured from the lowest brace root to the tallest extended leaf. Participants will also receive a free Dyna- Gro T-shirt while supplies last.
