Leo Oliva’s popular column, “It Happened In Kansas,” returns to the pages of the Sentinel-Times this week. After a brief hiatus, Leo is back with his signature blend of storytelling and Kansas history— much to the delight of our readers.

Leo kicked off his return with a brand-new threepart series, the first installment of which appeared in the July 30th issue. This week, we present part two: “Fort Mann and a Female Soldier on the Santa Fe Trail in Present-Day Kansas During the U.S.-Mexico War, 1847-1848.”

We’re happy to welcome Leo back and look forward to learning more from his extensive knowledge of Kansas history in the weeks to come.

    Enjoy!
