SGS Outdoor Learning Team works to renew school playground area
If you ask an average elementary school student what their favorite part of the school day is, you are likely to hear, “recess!” Recess serves as a crucial brain break for students, enabling them to be more productive in the classroom. Research indicates that playing outside offers numerous health benefits as well as opportunities for developing social-emotional skills.
At Stockton Grade School, the Outdoor Learning Team has been working to upgrade the school’s playground. The team is currently researching safe and engaging playground equipment, exploring costs and potential grants to help fund the replacement of worn-out play sets.
Additionally, they have posted flyers around town seeking community volunteers for a workday. The staff and community partners will repaint areas for activities such as tiger paws, four square, the U.S. map, and hopscotch. They also plan to remove unsafe teeter-totters and the aging preschool play set, and possibly reposition the Gaga pit onto a safer surface.
Community members are encouraged to contact the school with any questions or simply show up to lend a hand. By working together, our community can ensure that students have a safe and engaging playground for years to come.
