Tigers fall to Thunder Ridge in season opener, 70-12

SENIOR RYLAN BASART scored Stockton’s second TD of the game against Thunder Ridge last Friday at Tiger Stadium. Other Tigers in on the action were: Ryan Mongeau, #34, Zach Young, #9, Hayden Hilbrink, #2, and Jace Hartman, #16.
The Stockton Tigers were at home for their season opener last Friday, taking on the Thunder Ridge Longhorns in 8-man football action at Tiger Stadium.
The talented Thunder Ridge team picked up a 70-12 victory over Stockton, dropping the Tigers to 0-1 on the young season.
The Longhorns scored first when junior quarterback Dylan Bice ran the ball into the end zone for six points at the 10:23 mark of the opening quarter. His twin brother Dalton Bice added the PAT to give Thunder Ridge an 8-0 lead.
Not only did Stockton also score on its first possession, but on its first play from scrimmage when senior Camden Iwanski took the handoff from sophomore quarterback Max Moffet and, using his speed, went 52 yards for a TD, pulling Stockton to within two points, 6-8.
The Longhorns, however, would go on to score three more unanswered touchdowns in the first period to take a 30-6 lead into the second quarter.
Another run by Dylan Bice just 15 seconds into the second period pushed Thunder Ridge’s lead to 36-6, and the run for the PAT by Jace Randall gave the Longhorns a 38-6 advantage.
The Tigers would score their second TD of the game on a pass from Moffet to senior Rylan Basart, who caught the ball and broke loose for a 46-yard touchdown. The run for the PAT failed, leaving the score at 38-12 with 10:03 left in the second period.
The rest of the game belonged to Thunder Ridge as the Longhorns would tack on four more TDs to lead 70-12 at the intermission, and the game was called due to the mercy rule.
This week the Tigers will be on the road to Logan to face Logan-Palco. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
