RoCo Softball still looking for its first win of the season
Although improvement is being made, the RoCo Softball Team is still looking for its first win of the season. The girls kicked off their 2022 schedule traveling to Russell to take on Russell/Victoria. RoCo Softball was defeated 0-15 and 8-21 in the doubleheader. On March 31 they were on the road to Ellis, where they fell 1-16 and 0-23.
In their first home stand of the season, RoCo faced the Spearville Lancers. They dropped the first game 4-15, and despite playing well, they also dropped the second one by the score of 13-17. RoCo led through the first four innings, but an eight-run fifth inning by the Lancers turned the tide and Spearville was able to come back and get the victory.
RoCo recorded 11 hits in the game, led by sophomore Sara Whitney who went 3-4. Freshman Ashlyn Hahn went 2-5, and sophomore Jolyn Johnson went 2-4. Picking up one hit each were Coryn Hahn, Kyra Gottfried, Alessa Dinkel and Morgan Stahl. Johnson recored three RBIs.
On the mound, Briley Gosselin went four and a third innings, allowing 16 runs on 20 hits. Coryn Hahn pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on eight hits. Both pitchers had one strikeout.
In the first game of the double-header against Spearville, RoCo had just four hits with Coryn Hahn going 2-3. Recording one hit each were Whitney (1-3) with a triple and Johnson (1-2) with a double.
Coryn Hahn pitched all five innings for RoCo, giving up 15 runs on 17 hits, and striking out four.
RoCo vs. Ellis
In RoCo’s losses to the Lady Railers, the girls were only able to manage a total of three hits—one in the first and two in the second. Senior Kyra Gottfried recorded a double for the only hit in the first game, while Whitney and freshman Aubrey Kesler each went 1-2 in the second game.
In game one, Morgan Stahl pitched one-third of an inning, giving up 12 runs on 11 hits. Sophomore Josey Bice pitched one and two-thirds innings giving up 11 runs (10 earned) on three hits.
In game two, Bice pitched one inning giving up 10 runs on three hits, while Stahl gave up six runs (four earned) on seven hits in one inning.
RoCo vs. Russell/Victoria
In the season opener, RoCo was defeated 0-15 in three innings with Whitney recording the only hit. Coryn Hahn was on the mound giving up 15 runs on eight hits, and recording three strikeouts.
In game two RoCo was playing with their opponents until a 16-run fourth inning did the damage and they fell 8-21.
Whitney and Gottfried each went 2-3 from the plate to lead RoCo in hitting. Getting a hit apiece were: Kesler, C. Hahn, Taylor Rogers, Stahl, and Emily Stamper.
Coryn Hahn allowed 21 runs on 15 hits, while also recording four strikeouts.
