Lady Tigers still looking for first win of season

Four games into the season and the Stockton Lady Tigers are still looking for their first win. It was looking very promising on Friday night when they hosted Lakeside in the Pre-Season Basketball Tourney. The Stockton girls led by 16 points going into the final eight minutes, but they were unable to hold on, falling to the Lady Knights 56-49.

The game was a backand-forth battle in the first quarter with the Lady Tigers leading 16-13 at the end of the period. Just 31 seconds into the second quarter Delany Snyder hit a trey to give Stockton a 19-13 lead, and a basket by Kaelyn Means just seconds later pushed that lead to 21-13. At the intenission, the Lady Tigers were up 31-20.

Stockton was able to maintain a lead throughout the third quarter with two of Olivia Dix’s gamehigh 31 points coming at the 1:28 mark of the third, giving the Lady Tigers a 39-25 lead. With just under a minute left in the third, Cappi Hoeting hit a basket to give the Stockton girls their largest lead of the game, 41-25.

Things began to go south in the final eight minutes, however, as turnovers on the press resulted in the a gradual relinquishing of the lead. The Lady Tigers were still on top 46-45 with 3:24 to go in the game, but 19 seconds later they fell behind 47-46. A basket by Olivia Dix with 2:21 remaining regained a 48-47 advantage for Stockton, but over the final two minutes the Lady Tigers were outscored 9-1 and went on to lose 56-49.

Olivia Dix scored a game-high 31 points for Stockton.

Lakeside was led byKylie Bergmann with 22 and Bailee Cunningham with 11.

On Tuesday the Lady Tigers were defeated by Thunder Ridge 59-46. The Lady Longhorns got off to a 10-0 start and the Stockton girls never recovered.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Olivia Dix with a game-high 28 points. Kaelyn Means added 14.

Thunder Ridge also had two players in double figures: Alexis Holling with 24 and Kamryn Rietzke with 21.

On Saturday Stockton played Osborne, falling to the Lady Bulldogs 67-37. Again, the Lady Tigers got behind early, trailing 29-4 after the first quarter and couldn’t overcome the large deficit. Olivia Dix and Kae
