JOHNNY HAMEL was the gold medal winner in both the MCL/ Phillipsburg Invitational races last Thursday in Phillipsburg.
JOHNNY HAMEL was all alone as he ran his way to a firstplace finish in the MCL/Phillipsburg Invitational, winning by 25 seconds over the second-place finisher from Hoxie.

Johnny Hamel can add 2021 Mid-Continent League Cross Country Champion to his accolades for this season after running away from the pack to finish in first place at the meet held last Thursday at the Phillipsburg Golf Course. The Tiger sophomore crossed the finish line 25 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Hoxie. Hamel’s time of 18:23 for the 5K was a 44-second improvement over last year’s race at Phillipsburg.

Along with it being the Mid-Continent League Meet, it was also the Phillipsburg Invitational, and Hamel won both. Besides the MCL teams, Colby and Hastings, Neb. competed in the Invitational.

In the high school girls junior varsity race, freshman Ryleigh Gardner earned a ninth-place medal, finishing in a time of 30:21.

In their final race of the season, Stockton Junior High runners, Arial Sager and Kolt Kuhlmann, placed 14th (18:28) and 19th (17:56) respectively, with Sager receiving a medal.

This Thursday the high school harriers will travel to Downs for the Lakeside Invitational which is set to start at 4:00 p.m.
