Ashlyn Hahn places third at 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tourney in Salina
Emerson Lowry goes 2-2 at State in Hays
Stockton freshman Ashlyn Hahn made history once again when she earned herself a third-place medal at the 4A-1A Girls Wrestling State Championship last Wednesday and Thursday at the Tony’s Event Center in Salina. She and Raven Long were the first girls from Stockton to ever qualify for state wrestling, but now Hahn will also be remembered as the first female from SHS to earn a medal at State.
Ashlyn, who wrestled at 115, went 4-1 at the tourney with her only loss being an 8-0 major decision to Kathie Chavez of Colby, who ended up placing second in the tournament. Three of Hahn’s four wins were by falls, and one was from a technical fall. Her wins came over Rylee Shepherd of Eureka, Ellen Doty of Silver Lake, Kadynce Axelson of Chanute and Breanna Ross of Erie, whom she defeated in the third-place match. Ashlyn finished the season with an impressive 33-6 record.
Long, a senior who qualified at 191 lbs., lost by falls to Johanna Carrasco of Burlington and Elee Pitman of Baldwin, bringing an end to her Tiger wrestling career. Long finished with a record of 9-18, and great memories of being a state qualifier.
At the 3-2-1A Boys Wrestling State Championship at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays last Friday and Saturday, freshman Emerson Lowry, wrestling at 126 lbs., also made Stockton proud capturing two wins against two losses. Lowry ended up in the top eight…just one win away from a medal.
Lowry won his first match (4-2) over Colton Wikle of Sabetha with a sudden victory -1. In his second match on Friday he lost by a fall to Dillen Hook of Larned, who went on to win the state championship at 126. In the Consolation Round 2 on Saturday, Emerson began the day with a win, pinning Trenten Harris of Silver Lake. In his final match, Lowry faced Carter Trimble of Marysville, losing by a fall. Lowry finished the season with a 14-17 record.
