I love the story and folklore of Robin Hood and there have been quite a few actors who have picked up the bow and arrow to bring this cunning character to life on the big screen! And with that very long and varied list, here are my favorites….

Errol Flynn: His 1938 portrayal of Sir Robin of Loxsley the bandit king of Sherwood Forrest, is the quintessential Robin Hood with the green tights and his band of merry men! And did I mention he is not bad to look at? (The Adventures of Robin Hood)

Russell Crowe: For anyone who knows me, I don’t have to say another word! Plus, his portrayal of the skilled archer was directed by one of my favorite directors, Ridley Scott. (Robin Hood)

Sean Connery: I can, and do, listen to that lilting Scottish voice of his any chance I get! The story I love of his is when he portrays an older Robin Hood. (Robin Hood and Marian) Audrey Hepburn is Marian. Did I mention he has a wicked smile?

Kevin Costner: Though he is an okay Robin Hood, and cute to boot, for me, his performance is overshadowed by the one and only Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Plus, I do love it when King Richard appears at the end of the movie. Yes, it was only fitting that it was Sean Connery. Sorry, Kevin, but they both one-upped you in this film. And let’s add Christian Slater as Will Scarlet, Morgan Freeman as Azeem, and Nick Brimble as Little John. (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) Disney’s Robin Hood: It’s not just that Robin Hood (Brian Bedord) is portrayed as a cunning fox that makes this one so delightful, it is the rooster called Alan-a-Dale (Roger Miller) who tells the stories and sings the songs of the heroic Robin and his trusty sidekick Little John (Phil Harris) that makes this one of my favorites. There are also the added voices of Terry Thomas as Sir Hiss, Andy Devine as Friar Tuck, George Lindsey as Trigger, and Peter Ustinov as Prince John. And did I mention Carole Shelley as Lady Kluck? This animated version is a must-see for all ages!

Taron Egerton: He made an okay Robin Hood. And he gets props for being cute, and I do love him as Elton John in the movie “Rocketman.” (Robin Hood)
