Shirley Ann Faber
1936 - 2026
Shirley Ann Faber, age 89, of Clare, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
On November 26, 1936, Shirley was born to Al and Dorothy (Tillman) Cashen in Beal City.
She was united in marriage to Francis Faber in Beal City on November 6, 1954, and together they enjoyed fifty-three years until Francis’ passing in May of 2008.
Shirley enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean and Europe, gardening and canning, baking her infamous candies at Christmastime, and was never one to drive past a good-looking yard sale. Those who knew Shirley best knew that her greatest love was for the Lord. She lived out her Catholic faith through prayer and serving as an active parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Parish—where she helped serve countless funeral luncheons. She truly was the hands and feet of Jesus to all those she met, never turning down an opportunity to help others in times of need. Shirley blessed those around her with a generous spirit and a kind heart.
Her greatest joy was her family. And if you knew her, you were family. If you showed up at her door, she would cook for you and send you home with a surplus of food. She wanted everyone to know they were loved by her and the good Lord. If you knew her, she prayed for you, always with a rosary in her hand. She was a true matriarch, an inspiration of love, and a pillar of strength to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
She is survived by her children Bill Faber (Lisa Ashley) of Harrison, Teresa Gaffner (Robert Perry) of Farwell, Bob Faber (Mardi Dysinger) of Clare, Deb (Harold) Schleicher of Stockton, Linda (John) Fabian of Rosebush, Casey (Saulius) Polteraitis of Milford, and Pat Cashen of Mecosta; her fifteen grandchildren and her eighteen great-grandchildren; her brothers Bill (Carole) Cashen and Jim (Michelle) Cashen; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Faber; her siblings, Susanne Schaffer, Pat Cashen, and Bob Cashen; her grandson, Richard Schleicher; and her great-granddaughter, Lennon McMullen.
A Funeral Mass in honor of Shirley will take place on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Our Lady of Hope Parish of Clare at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Francis Koper officiating. A time of visitation will take place for Shirley on Sunday, July 12th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, with a Rosary service at 6:30. Shirley’s final place of rest will be the St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery of Clare, alongside her husband Francis.
