Ronna Lou (Groom) Hockett Simpson
1943 - 2026
Ronna Lou (Groom) Hockett Simpson, 83, of Plainville, passed away on July 4, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
She was born on March 26, 1943, in Plainville, Kansas, to Perry and Althea (Collins) Groom. Ronna graduated from Codell Community High School with the class of 1962.
She married Stanley Hockett on October 15, 1960, in Colorado Springs, Colo., where they made their home before relocating back to Plainville in 1979. They were blessed with four children: Belinda “Lindy”, Jerlyn “Jerry”, Percie, and Collin. Stanley preceded her in death in 1997. She later married Robert Simpson on March 11, 2001. Robert passed away in 2006.
Throughout her life, Ronna worked as a daycare provider, cleaned houses for many residents of Plainville, delivered the Salina Journal newspaper, and served many years as the assistant activities director at Redbud Village in Plainville. She was especially talented at making wagon wheel rugs, a craft lovingly passed down from her grandmother. Ronna enjoyed working on puzzles, reading, collecting Goofus glass, spending time with her family, and making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary until her move to Redbud Estates.
One of Ronna’s greatest acts of love was helping raise her niece, Ganine Medina, during the first six years of her life, a relationship they both cherished.
She is survived by her children, Belinda (Mike) Hockett of Gilbert, Ariz., Jerlyn (Jerald) Gormly of Atchison, Percie (Keith) Ashcraft of Divide, Colo., and Collin (Kristie) Hockett of Plainville; her brother, Ricky Groom of Plainville; her niece, Ganine (Miguel) Medina; seven grandchildren, Christopher Sullivan, Lacy Sullivan, Dakota (Nick) Vaughan, Kayla Hockett, Peyton (Spencer) Higgins, Taylor Sullivan, and Richard (Rachel) Hockett; and six great-grandchildren, Ava, Alaina, Alexis, Titus, Mason, and Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Stanley Hockett and Robert Simpson.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Shiloh Cemetery in Codell. Extended family and friends are welcome to attend. A lunch will be provided following the service at the Codell Community Center (old school building).
