Ronna Lou (Groom) Hockett

Ronna Lou (Groom) Hockett Simpson, 83, of Plainville, passed away on July 4, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
She was born on March 26, 1943, in Plainville, Kansas, to Perry and Althea (Collins) Groom. Ronna graduated from Codell Community High School with the class of 1962.
She married Stanley Hockett on October 15, 1960, in Colorado Springs, Colo., where they made their home before relocating back to Plainville in 1979. They were blessed with four children: Belinda “Lindy”, Jerlyn “Jerry”, Percie, and Collin. Stanley preceded her in death in 1997. She later married Robert Simpson on March 11, 2001. Robert passed away in 2006.
Throughout her life, Ronna worked as a daycare provider, cleaned houses for many residents of Plainville, delivered the Salina Journal newspaper, and served many years as the assistant activities director at Redbud Village in Plainville. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary until her move to Redbud Estates.
She is survived by her children, Belinda (Mike) Hockett of Gilbert, Ariz., Jerlyn (Jerald) Gormly of Atchison, Percie (Keith) Ashcraft of Divide, Colo., and Collin (Kristie) Hockett of Plainville; her brother, Ricky Groom of Plainville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Stanley Hockett and Robert Simpson.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Shiloh Cemetery in Codell. Extended family and friends are welcome to attend. A lunch will be provided following the service at the Codell Community Center (old school building).
