Robert E. Henry was born on June 3, 1957, to Charles F. and Florence A. (Bowers) Henry in Enid, Oklahoma. Robert grew up in Oklahoma, Nebraska and Kansas. He graduated from Salina South High School in May 1975 in Salina, Kansas, and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He was stationed at various bases in the United States, then in southeast Asia, Okinawa, and at Subic Bay in the Philippines. He eventually returned to the U.S. and was stationed at MCAS El Toro, California, until he was honorably discharged in May 1979.

Robert married Florence Stewart on October 8, 1988, in Salina, Kansas. They were blessed with two children, Alexander and Nicholas. Robert started working for the U.S. Postal Service in Salina, Kansas, and was Supervisor of the night crew there, was Postmaster of Stockton, Kansas, and of Phillipsburg, Kansas, then in 2012 moved to Buffalo, Wyoming, to become the Postmaster there. Robert retired from the USPS on December 31, 2018, after over 30 years.

Robert enjoyed handball, running, hunting, anything outdoors, was a voracious reader who collected many books, and especially time spent with his boys. He was an avid collector of flamingoes, which he called his “warbirds” and boasted that his home was the best guarded residence on the block. As a former Marine, Robert lived his life by a strong code of ethics and honor. He brought that code with him into every aspect of his life, and his proudest moments were watching his sons grow up to emulate that code. He is remembered as a loving husband and father, a loyal friend, a fair but hardworking boss, someone who was willing to tackle any task with hard work, but also someone who could have fun and was always up for a good joke. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Robert is survived by his wife Florence of Buffalo, Wyoming; son Alex Henry of Manhattan, Kansas; son Nick Henry of Edmonds, Washington; sister Iris Henry of Salina, Kansas; brother, Chuck Henry and wife Michelle of Danville, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
