Kathleen O. Fischer, of Plainville, passed away on April 23, 2025, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 80.

She was born on December 31, 1944, to Timothy and Mildred (Write) Fischer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was married to Timothy S. Boyd.

Kathleen grew up in Plainville and Hays, Kansas and graduated from High School in 1962. A proud and adventurous spirit, Kathleen served in the Army, where she drove a deuce and a half — a role she took great pride in. She was an E4 at Fort Riley, home of the Big Red One. Later in life, she also earned her master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas. She pursued her passion for beauty and style by attending cosmetology school. She worked in salons for many years and was known for her warm personality and talent behind the chair.

She was also a dedicated member of the Merci Box Car organization in Hays, honoring her deep appreciation for history and service.

Kathleen was a woman of many interests and passions. She loved motorcycles and trains, and her heart was always open to animals of all kinds. Her love for hairdressing never waned, even after retirement, and she cherished the friendships she made throughout her life. Whether she was striking up a conversation with a stranger or caring for a furry companion, Kathleen brought warmth and joy wherever she went. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James "Jimmy" Fischer and Robert "Robby" Fischer.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Timothy Boyd of Plainville, and niece, Michelle Fife of Amarillo, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 1 p.m., with a visitation from noon until service time at First Baptist Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at the Plainville Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the funeral home (to help with funeral expenses) and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd, Plainville, KS 67663.
