Dennis Michael Kirby
Dennis Michael Kirby, 73, of Bonner Springs, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
He was born on April 5, 1952, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Curtis N. Kirby Sr. and Anna Marie (Thoele) Kirby.
One of six children, he spent his early years in the Muncie area before his family moved to Bonner Springs during junior high school. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1970.
Dennis worked as a laborer for C&S Construction and later for Clarkson Construction, retiring in 2001. He then continued his career with the Kansas Department of Transportation in road maintenance until retiring in 2013.
In 1977, he married the love of his life, Cynthia Delana, and together they built a home in Bonner Springs, where they raised their family and created many lasting memories.
Dennis enjoyed attending auctions—especially tool auctions— and took great pride in his gardening and small orchard. He loved relaxing on his porch swing, watching storms roll in, and observing the wildlife around him.
He also enjoyed Sunday drives for ice cream and celebrating the Fourth of July. Above all, Dennis cherished time spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Curtis N. Kirby Jr. and Mary L. Kirby; and his son, Dennis M.
Kirby Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Kirby, of the home; his children, Andrea Dix (Leonard) of Stockton, Amy McClellan of De Soto, Daniel Kirby of Bonner Springs, Dallas Kirby (Julia) of Bonner Springs, Amanda Kirby of Lawrence, and Don Kirby (Sara) of Tonganoxie; his siblings, Tony C. Kirby (Lisa) of Crestview, Fla., and Jeff W. Kirby (Angela) and Peggy C. Burchfield (Bob), both of Basehor. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael Dix, Allison Dix, Sarah McClellan, Devlin Kirby, Anthony Moreno (Madie), Dylan Kirby (Tessa), Dakota Kirby, Julian Kirby, Josie Kirby, Dominic Kirby, and Ava Kirby; and his great-grandchildren: Ayla Moreno, Elias Moreno, and Denver Kirby.
