Dee Arden Cox
1940 - 2020
Dee Arden Cox, age 79, Alton, passed away on Saturday, Aprl 18, 2020, in his sleep.
He was born August 2, 1940, to Charles and Francis (Thompson) Cox in Alton, and was the youngest of six children.
Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; his parents; older brother, Charles “Sonny” Cox; and stepsisters, Marjorie Bales and Barbara Snedker. He joined the Air
He joined the Air Force in 1961. Dee and Bonnie lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and Anchorage, Alaska before Dee was injured and they returned to Kansas due to medical discharge.
Dee had a quick smile and usually a quick comeback to any conversation or situation. He was a farmer throughout his life and never thought twice about lending a hand to anyone in need. He always had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing others any time he could. Dee enjoyed working on vehicles of any kind, drinking coffee, working with his hands, and relaxing in his recliner watching westerns or the Weather Channel.
Dee was active in the Alton community. He made sure the bluff cross was always lit for the Easter Sunrise Service, assisted in the Alton Jubilee in building the stages for the plays and helping out anytime he was asked. He worked diligently to get the Bohemian Hall moved to Alton and participated in many events held in the building.
Dee was involved in the Woodston United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion of Alton and involved in carrying flags for parades for Memorial Day ceremonies and funerals.
Dee married Bonnie Heaton in Woodston June 24, 1962 and they had three children.
He is survived by his children: James and wife Lisa and granddaughters, Amber and Andrea of Newton; David and wife Stacie and granddaughter, Emmaline of Wichita; Christine Dvorak and husband, Dale, and grandsons Micah and Noah of Garden City; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Visitation was held April 22 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Dee was laid to rest
Dee was laid to rest beside his wife, Bonnie, in the Sumner Cemetery on Thursday, April 23, at 11:00 a.m.
