The Rooks County Free Fair will begin this Sunday, August 7th with a few changes from past years in the grandstand lineup, so please take note.
The Demolition Derby will kick off this year’s grandstand events at the fairgrounds with a bang on Sunday, August 7th. The action will begin at 4:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $10.00 for Adults, $5.00 for Children 6 to 12 years of age, and FREE for Children 5 and Under. Tuesday (August 8th) the FREE Ranch Rodeo will take place in the Frank Smith Arena starting at 7:00 p.m. Then on Wednesday and Thursday evenings (August 10th and 11th) the grandstand will be the place to be for the IMCA Stock Car Races. Feature races will begin at 7:00 p.m. each evening. Ticket prices are $15.00 for Adults, $10.00 for Children ages 6 to 12 years of age, and FREE for Children 5 and Under. And finishing off the great grandstand events lined up for this year’s fair will be the ever-popular motorcycle races on Friday and Saturday nights (August 12th and 13th) starting at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $10.00 for Adults, $5.00 for Children ages 6 to 12 years of age, and FREE for Children 5 and Under. The Inflatable Carnival will again be at this year’s fair and will be open to the public for lots of fun and games on Monday and Tuesday nights (August 8th and 9th) from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Inflatable Carnival armbands are priced at $5.00 per night.
Don’t forget about the free musical performances under the Solutions North Bank Pavilion during most of the evenings starting on Monday night (August 8th) with KZNC Party JDs. The rest of the musical lineup starts in again on Wednesday night (August 10th) with The Box Turtles set to take the stage. This musical group was a Kansas State Fair “Rock the Fair” semifinalist. Cole Harris will appear on Thursday (August 11th) with Zach Neil to perform on Friday (August 12th). Jimmy Dee & The Fabulous Destinations will be ready to rock ‘n roll on Saturday night (August 13th), so be ready to do some hopping and bopping!
Other morning and afternoon activities will have plenty for everyone to enjoy! On Monday afternoon, August 8th, the Tallest Corn Plant Contest will be held starting at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The Sand Castle Contest located by the SNB Pavilion will be held on Tuesday, August 9th starting with registration at 1:00 p.m. On Wednesday, August 10th, the Knights of Columbus Bingo will held under the SNB Pavilion between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., followed by the FREE Watermelon Feed at 4:00 p.m. The Youth Pet Parade will be held at the Sutor-Blauer Arena at 5:30 p.m. On Thursday, August 11th, the Ag Science Lab will take place at 4:00 p.m. Then on Friday, August 12th and Saturday, August 13th, the Manhatchet Axe Throwing will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on both evenings. Also on Friday, the 4-H Livestock Sale will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Get ready to fill your weekday afternoons by checking out what’s on display in the 4-H to Open Class buildings, and take in the livestock, flowers, wheat, vegetables, crafts, sewing, cooking, photography, art and much more! So make sure you bring in your entries at the beginning of the week, and then check out the buildings, displays, animal barns and chicken coops every day! Commercial Vendors will be open daily from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in McCaslin Hall.

Season Passes for the grandstand entertainment and Inflatable Carnival armbands can be purchased at the Fair Office. Season passes are $40.00 for Adults, $15.00 for Children 6-12, and Children 5 and Under are FREE. Please note that the Season Passes are NOT good at the pit gate and all grandstand tickets are Non-Refundable.
