Philip Alan Barber
1937 - 2022
Philip Alan Barber, 85, passed away on July 20, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on February 23, 1937, to Virgil and Helen (Lloyd) Barber in Los Angeles, California.
Phil graduated from Plainville High School in 1956. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force, after four years he was honorably discharged. He was united into marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Kaba, on May 2, 1957, at the Sacred Heart Church in Plainville, Kansas. The couple was blessed with three children: Cindy, David, and Kathy.
Phil worked in the oil fields and Sooner Pipe and Supply while living in Kansas, then he moved to Iowa and worked in a packing house until retirement. Phil loved going to auctions and garage sales, always looking for that one special piece of glass. He collected many, many, pieces through the years but his favorite was Fenton glass. Every once in awhile he would enjoy going to the casino and trying his luck at the slots. He loved sports—mostly the Jayhawks. If his TV was on it had sports playing.
He is survived by his children, Cindy (Mike) McGuire of Carter Lake, Iowa, David (Carla) Barber of Oakland, Iowa, and Kathy (Roger) Nelson of Hancock, Iowa; grandchildren, Jeremy (Laurie) Barber, James (Natalie) Barber, Jason Barber, Justin (Janeth) Barber, Sara (Zach) McGuire, Rachel (Aaron) Michalski, Emily McGuire, Emily Frink, and Kristen Nelson; great-grandchildren, Haley, Alexis, Ellie, Tate, Beau, Arianna, Theo, Ariana and Gwen; a sister, Karen (Jay) Wilson; brothers-in-law, Mike (Lisa) Kaba and Mark Kaba; sisters-in-law, Nell Kaba, Jeanne Barber, and Patty Foltz; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbor and friend, Debbie, and many others.
Phil joins in heaven his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Barber; parents, Virgil and Helen Barber; in-laws, James and Marie (Boller) Kaba; brothers-in-law, Larry (Butch) Kaba and Denny Kaba; and sisters-in-law, Janice Kaba and Jeanie Kaba.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Plainville. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
