*And So They Say: Dorothea Lytle: “Saturday was the first time we ever ran out of everything in the bakery.” Rupert Dryden: “I used to have long golden curls—and still have them put away in a box somewhere.” Iva Roskilly: “Glen had a birthday Saturday, but I’m not telling how old he is.”

* To determine the fifth place High 30 Individual winner for the Stockton Bowling Tournament, there was to be a sudden death play-off at Stockton Lanes. Everyone was invited to witness the event. Invincible “Venom Vale” of Plainville was to go against Stockton’s little “Hotball Harold.” Plenty of excitement was promised and it was asked that spectators leave their shooting irons and other lethal weapons at home.

* Frigid weather conditions had prevented the usual long distance buyers from attending the Schneider Ranch annual bull sale. Only half of the bull offerings were sold with nearly all going to breeders in a four-county area. Stockton buyers were K. W. Casad, Bob Lindsey, Fred Reed and David Dryden.

* Stockton High School student Lee Ann Harding had been elected to the office of FHA District B Second Vice President at the Smith Center meeting.

* Even though the Gamble Store had been open for about three months, the grand opening was postponed until the remodeling had been completed and more merchandise had arrived. The big event had finally been set with Mr. and Mrs. John Gibbs to offer free gifts, coffee and cookies, and bargains for all.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: The Good Old Days were when all those names of foreign countries and cities were just places on the map.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: The Standard Oil Station was to have its grand opening under the management of Loren Schrock and Morris Fortin. Hobart Lamkin had retired as city mail carrier after 28 years on the job because of ill health. A daughter was born on February 7th to Mr. and Mrs. E. Charles Hageman.

* Due to the many requests from the public, “Old Yeller” was to be shown at the Nova Theatre at 9:30 p.m. after the home basketball game on Saturday night.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were homemade sausage for 59¢ a pound, rib end pork chops for 59¢ a pound, three cans of Libby’s Yellow cling peaches for $1.00, and six frozen TV pot pies for $1.00.

* The engagement of Miss Peggy Ann Gibson to Curtis E. Lindholm had been announced with a spring wedding planned.

* Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Miller and family had celebrated the 17th birth anniversary of their daughter and sister, Connie, with a Sunday dinner.

* Mr. and Mrs. Willis Cook celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

* Showing at the Nova Theatre were the movies, Walt Disney’s “Old Yeller” and “Joy in the Morning” starring Richard Chamberlain and Yvette Mimieux.
