Hobart Homemakers FCE
The Hobart Homemakers FCE group met Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at the United Methodist Church in Stockton at 7 p.m. Ruth Ann opened our meeting with the flag salute. Roll call was, “What are you doing to stay well this winter?” It was answered by 8 members. The minutes of the last meeting and treasurer’s report were read. Janie made a motion to accept the minutes and treasurer’s report as read and Kim seconded the motion. Janie made a report from the council meeting and we are planning a county wide seminar again this year. The topic will be, “Human Trafficking”. The date is set for March 30th with a potato bar before the seminar. Flyers and as will be out soon to notify the public of this topic.
The Spring Business Meeting and Awards Presentation is April 23 at the 4-H Building here in Stockton at 9:30. More details are coming. Kim is registered for the National FCE Convention in Portland, Oregon July 23-26. We discussed a year long project that we can do this year related to one of our lessons. We will continue to think on this topic.
Pam gave our lesson tonight on “Antibiotics: History, Use and Abuse.” Interesting topic this time of year as we are in the flu season. Antibiotics can be loosely defined as the variety of substances derived from bacterial sources that control the growth of or kill bacteria. Antibiotics save lives and are beneficial when needed. They can cause side effects and do not treat colds, viruses, etc. You should decrease your chance of getting sick by using safe food handling, hand washing and staying home while sick. Patty Jackson won the door prize and we enjoyed strawberry shortcake and iced tea while visiting. Our meeting was adjourned and our next meeting is March 23, 2020.— Reporter
