Strong winds prompted fire calls to the Stockton Fire Department over the weekend beginning on Saturday morning, March 7th when the department received a call for mutual aid from Woodston to help with a fire at Keith Chesney’s property. Milo stalks had caught on fire, but thankfully by the time firemen arrived, the fire had been put out and contained with the use of a tractor plowing around the area. This was just the first of several calls received through-out the day as the volunteers were again called out for mutual aid at 12:16 p.m. to help with a grass fire located west of Glade. The next call came at 4:26 p.m. when the volunteers put out a dumpster fire at the Stockton Street Shop, but that was not the end of the calls for that day. Stockton received their last call Saturday for mutual aid near Plainville to help with a grass fire located at the Rooks County line near Natoma at 12:59p.m.

On Sunday, with the winds blowing steadily throughout the day, a fire call went out at 4:43 p.m. to Stockton for a grass fire on M Road along Highway 24. Stockton called for mutual aid from Plainville, Woodston and Alton with all of the manpower from the combined departments taking over five hours to contain and put out the fire.

With rain showers moving into the area early Monday morning, the Stockton Fire Department volunteers spent the day cleaning their gear after the busy weekend and getting the fire trucks ready for the next call.
