* And So They Say: Frances Nichols: “I do not know why they do not make postage stamps with good tasting stick-um.” Clark Stocking, “We advertised the Rooks County Free Fair all the way to California and back.” Ruby Sanders: “I cannot go on a vacation trip. I have got to stay home and pick peas.” George Turnbull: “I have been taking the Record a long time and I do not intend to try getting along without it.”

* Quite an honor had come to Stockton and the local Lions Club when Virgil Olson had been elected as the District Governor for District 17NW of Lions International. Virgil had been a member of the Lions Club for eleven years with a perfect attendance record for over seven years. He had served the Stockton club as secretary, vice president and president. He had also served as Zone Chairman and was Deputy District Governor for over two years.

* Mrs. Buena Wenzl, who had been operating a beauty shop at her home for a long time, had purchased Mrs. Margaret Reidel’s shop on South Cypress. Mrs. Sondra Folsom, a recent graduate of the Sidney Beauty School of Hays, was to assist her at the shop.

* From The Feminine Slant By The Office Cat: Everyone seems to know what to do about the world situation, except the people who should be taking care of it.

* Looking Backward Fourteen Years Ago: W. F. Hughes had been re-elected president of the U. S. Highway 24 Association. Kenneth Buss had returned home from the hospital after being there since suffering gunshot wounds on November 9th, but was still bedfast and would have to return to the hospital. A two-story farmhouse of Mr. and Mrs. Van Strutt south of Woodston had burned when hit by lightning. Mr. and Mrs. Efford Lowe were the parents of a son born June 11th.

* On sale at Slansky IGA were fresh loin or rib end roast pork chops for 59¢ a pound, six cans of Libby tomato sauce for 69¢, four mandarin oranges for $1.00, a dozen Sunkist oranges for 69¢ and six cans of IGA applesauce for $1.00.

* The Class of 1945 of the Woodston High school had held their 20th class reunion oat the Midway Café. A delicious dinner had been served after which the members enjoyed looking at pictures and reading their Class Will, History and Prophecy to see just how near they got it right. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Dee Webb, Phyllis Pauley, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Breckenridge, Mr. and Mrs. John Ballard, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mitchum, Mrs. Leo Hurlburt, Miss Dorothy Lafon, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Hoar, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Chesney, and Mrs. Edmond Eggers.

* Miss Jolene Webster, who had been teaching in Loveland, Colorado, and a friend, Miss Roberta Price, had visited in the home of Jolene’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Webster before they left for a summer tour of Europe. The young women, in the company with two other girls, were to fly from Kansas City to New York where they would then head to Madrid, Spain. Their itinerary included Spain, Italy, Holland, Denmark and the Greek Islands.

* Showing at the Park Drive-In were the movies, “Devil Ship Pirates,” Youngblood Hawke” starring James Franciscus and Suzanne Pleshette, and “Lassie’s Great Adventure.”
