Child says there’s a monster under the bed, babysitter comes face-to-face with suspect
GREAT BEND—A 27-year-old man has been arrested on several charges, including kidnapping and burglary, after a child told his babysitter there was a monster under their bed. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office said that, around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, March 24th, deputies had responded to a disturbance in the 2000 block of Patton Road, just outside Great Bend. Deputies contacted a victim, who said she was babysitting children at the home. When putting the children to bed, one child complained there was a “monster” under their bed. When the babysitter attempted to show the child there was nothing under the bed, she came face-to-face with a man, who was later identified as Martin Villalobos, Jr. hiding there. An altercation ensued with the babysitter, with a child being knocked over in the struggle before Villalobos fled from the house before deputies arrived. Authorities say Villalobos once lived at the home but was previously issued a protection from abuse order to stay away from the property. Deputies searched the area that evening for Villalobos but were unable to locate him. The next morning, deputies were in the area still looking for Villalobos. He was spotted in the 2000 block of Patton Road, at which point he attempted to flee from law enforcement. After a short foot pursuit, Villalobos was captured, arrested, and taken to the Barton County Jail. He was booked for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order. He is being held on $500,000.00 bond. Online court records show Villalobos has pending charges of criminal threat and domestic battery for an incident that happened on January 31st and violating a protection order on February 22nd. (KAKE)
