To the Editor:
For more than 30 years, the Kansas Children’s Service League (KCSL) has led state efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect. As the Kansas chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America, we know this work is urgent and ongoing. Every April, we renew our call to action during National Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month.
This year’s theme, “Powered by Hope, Strengthened by Prevention,” reminds us that hope and prevention go hand in hand. We create stronger, healthier communities where children can thrive when we invest in families before challenges become crises. Prevention is key to making that vision a reality.
We can all help strengthen families. Provide families with the tools and support they need when they need them. Support policies like affordable childcare and housing options. Back community efforts that offer concrete support to families. Small acts— encouraging a parent, mentoring a child, or volunteering— also make a difference.
Together, we can break cycles of adversity and build a Kansas where every child is safe, nurtured, and full of possibility. This April and beyond, join us in celebrating the power of hope and the strength of prevention. Sincerely,
Gail Cozadd
