Virgi's Views on This 'n That
THIS AND THAT
* Already said goodbye to the first month of 2021! Can you believe how fast January went?
* Actress Cicely Tyson recently passed away. I loved her as Sipsey in the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes,” and love the movie “Sounder.” If you haven’t seen these two movies, I highly recommend them. Two of my favorite sayings from those movies are “The secret’s in the sauce,” and “Back at ya!”
* Who used Dippity-do back in the day?
* Passing this along….“Remember in ‘The Lion King’ when Scar cheated to win the title as king? And the pride land was overrun with hyenas? And all of the lions lost everything they had built and maintained? Just asking. No reason.”
* I read this bit of trivia…..“The Great Depression is the reason movie theaters sell popcorn. When the Depression pummeled the economy in 1929, movie theaters were hit with lower demand. Since popcorn had soared as a cheap snack during that time, the movie theaters started selling it as a show time concession to help their businesses survive.” Gotta say, it is still the best movie concession ever!
* The next time your kids ask you what it was like for you when you were growing up, take away their cell phones, shut off their internet, give them a popsicle, tell them to go outside and don’t come home until the street lights come on. Those were the days, for sure!
*This is so true….“The older you get, the uglier you’re willing to go out in public.”
* I am all for getting rid of Valentine’s Day and replacing it with a second Halloween! Who’s with me?
* Gas prices at the end of January were $2.19 a gallon.
* With all this snow and piles of it stacked up all over town, just saying those make great snow forts!
* Not sure if this is true or not, but I had to giggle at this one…. A news reporter asked Michael Jordon if he thought his 1990s Chicago Bulls could beat Lebron James and the L.A. Lakers. MJ said yes and the reporter asked by how much? MJ answered it would be by two or three points. The reporter asked why it would be such a close game. MJ replied, “Well, most of us are almost 60 now.”
