The Providence of God may be defined as God’s guardianship and His care for His creatures and creation. Everything that goes on in your life, God is at work. For some, it is hard to imagine with all the things that happen in our lives day after day that there is any way God could be at work. God’s Providence says otherwise.
You might relate to this with the example of using your cell phone’s Map app to find the route to a destination. You start your route, but accidentally take a wrong turn. The app immediately begins to re-route you, taking a different path to the same destination. Likewise, sometimes in our lives we have to be re-routed. God make take us on a different path than we expected, but our destination remains the same.
Pastor Brian talked this week from the 2nd chapter of Ruth in the Old Testament. In the book of Ruth, we are told that Ruth’s mother-in-law, Naomi, faces extreme adversity after losing both her husband and her two sons. Ruth makes the decision to stay with Naomi despite the mother-in-law’s plea to “go back to her people.” Ruth stays with Naomi and God’s Providence becomes evident in her life.
Ruth goes to work for a godly man, Boaz, and after a long day’s work, it is evident that God is indeed working in Ruth’s life. It is no accident that Ruth works for Boaz and is protected and provided for.
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us we are to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” If we trust God, and trust that he is always working for our good, then we can believe that He won’t mess it up. The key is that we must involve God in our lives. God is telling you, “I will get you there.” That is the story of Ruth.
Before you were created, God loved you and had a plan for your life. God sent Jesus just for you, because He loved you. That is the grace of God.
Discover that grace by attending our services this Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Start the new year off with experiencing God’s grace in your life.
