Henry Xavier Plante, 95, of Plainville, passed away peacefully at his home on July 1, 2026.

He was born on August 27, 1930, in Damar to Joseph Phillip and Cordelia (Tremblay) Plante.

He attended school in Damar and Codell. On October 28, 1956, he married the love of his life, Janet Jo Bair, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. They were blessed with one daughter and seven sons and shared 47 years of marriage until Janet's passing on December 31, 2003.

Henry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.

Throughout his life, Henry was known for his strong work ethic. He worked as a pumper for Davis Brothers, a roustabout for Floyd Kelly, and drove a school bus for Lee Smith in Codell. He later purchased his father’s farm, where he worked the land and maintained the farm night and day. While continuing to work for Davis Brothers, Henry also purchased his father-in-law’s farm, the Bair, north of Plainville. No matter where he worked, he took pride in doing every job well.

Henry found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, driving his four-wheeler to check on his land, square dancing, country cruising, and playing cards—especially Pitch and Poker. One of his greatest enjoyments was checking on his wheat fields. Above all, Henry's greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Henry was known for his kind and loving nature, his sense of humor, and the familiar sayings he shared with family and friends, including "Whatcha up to? Out chasing Shep!" and his favorite reflection, "I would trade two tomorrows for one yesterday."

Henry was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the VFW, and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his sons, Leon (Margaret) Plante, John (Marla) Plante, Francis (Sheila) Plante, Steve (Mary) Plante, Duane (Patricia) Plante, and Allen (Amy) Plante, all of Plainville; brothers, Norbert Plante of Hays and Galen Plante of Plainville; along with 80 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Janet Jo Plante; his son, Joseph Plante; his daughter, Mary Plante Gerstner; his sisters, Helen Plante, Adeline (Delmer) Mongeau, and Virginia (Lavine) Wolfe; and his sisters-in-law, Jeanette Plante and Joyce Plante.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a Vigil and Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Codell Township 12 and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd St, Plainville, KS 67663.
