Local boy, Joseph Brian Hicks (Chief Master Sergeant, Retired), 86, peacefully returned to his Lord on June 1, 2026 at Nashville VA Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 66 years, Maureen Joyce Hicks.
Joe Brian is now welcomed at Heaven’s gate by his parents, Joseph Richmond Hicks and Sylvia Voight Hicks, and his sister Mary Ernst-Hicks, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Gary Hicks, and nephew, Joe Ernst.
Born December 30, 1939, Joe Brian’s soul has returned home to Our Lord and Savior after living a blessed life dedicated to service. A 1957 graduate of Plainville High School, he served with distinction for over 30 years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E9). Throughout his career, Joe was stationed worldwide and mentored thousands of young Airmen, leaving a lasting legacy of leadership and guidance. Even after retirement, he remained active and dedicated to his family and community. Joe moved from Texas to his daughter’s home in Murfreesboro, Tenn., approximately two years ago due to health issues.
Joe Brian and his beloved wife, Maureen, raised four wonderful children: Carol, Keith, Kevin, and Jean. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Timothy Joseph, Scott, Mary, Elizabeth (Lizzy), and Lauren. He also cherished four great-grandchildren: Colton, Preston, River, and Archer.
Though Joe Brian left Plainville many years ago for his service, he returned often during his active duty years, and Plainville held a special place in his heart.
